While access control systems, gate entry systems, and human guards all can excel at keeping the wrong people out of a property and letting the right ones in, each has its unique weaknesses. Access control systems and gate entry systems can both prove vulnerable to compromised credentials, and personnel sometimes fall prey to fatigue.
That’s where systems from Barcode Automation, Inc. (BAI) come into play. BAI’s automatic scanning technology serves as an integrative supplementation to traditional guards, gate access systems, and access control, ensuring that the right vehicles — and only the right vehicle — are able to gain entry to your property.
What are the BAI BA-440 DualBeam Barcode Reader and Barcode Decals?
In the past, gate access systems typically worked with gate openers, those portable remotes that broadcast a signal which would open an automated swing or slide gate. Unfortunately, such remotes have obvious drawbacks. Because they typically clipped to a vehicle’s sun visor, they could be easily misplaced, lost, loaned, or stolen by opportunistic thieves, compromising security. They could also be rather expensive depending on the specific technology involved.
That’s why BAI created its BA-440 DualBeam Barcode Reader and associated barcode decals. In addition to remaining firmly connected to a single car or truck and proving far less expensive, they’re also automated, which greatly reduces the daily strain placed on security personnel.
The BA-440 DualBeam Barcode Reader is a standalone scanner that can function in temperatures ranging from -22 to 130 Fahrenheit. With dimensions of 12.0” x 10.3” x 6.4”, it serves as a low-profile addition to your current security setup, requiring no more than 24” of distance between the installation position and the target vehicle.
Using DualBeam technology, the BA-440 outputs a 658nM CDRH Safety Class II laser that can detect credentials even in the most extreme weather conditions. That includes dust, sand, snow, and rain, including conditions that are up to 100 percent humidity. You won’t have to worry about long queue times, either. The BA-440 can process one vehicle every quarter of a second, which facilitates orderly processing in high-traffic areas.
Durable and easily repairable, the BA-440 carries a 5-year performance guarantee, and users that regularly maintain the scanner can expect a useful life of more than a decade. Indeed, our access control specialist Mark Hildebrandt says, “BAI products are second to none. Put them in the field, install them properly and you will never have issues.” That means you can enjoy an access control component that provides excellent value year after year.
Speaking of excellent value, BAI barcode decals serve as an affordable alternative to remotes, fobs, and transmitter tags. Unlike those credentialing methods, our decals are inexpensive in addition to being secure. They also come in up to 30 different color combinations and five-digit ID numbers, making for up to 99,999 unique ID numbers and 2,999,970 total unique tags. These unique tags enhance your company’s security, discouraging duplication or forgery of existing tags. Why? The BA-440 reads so precisely that it can detect duplicated codes and will ignore them. Custom decals are also available.
